Shopster's Help and Support

Shipping Rules

Shipping rules allow you to create a sales strategy to maximize your business. You can choose to use Shopster's shipping calculator or you can create your own rules for calculating the cost of shipping (based on either the order amount, the number of items in an order or the total weight of items).

How to use:

  1. Under the Settings heading click on the Shipping Rules link
  2. Click the Change Rules button.
  3. Depending on your sales strategy, select to use either Shopster's shipping calculator (a Shopster specific tool that standardizes the cost of shipping costs for all of our supplies) or to setup your own shipping rules.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Select which countries you will ship to.

Shopster's Shipping Calculator

If you have elected to use Shopster's shipping calculator there is nothing further that you need to do. You can change your shipping rules at any time.

My Shipping Rules

If you have elected to setup your own shipping rules:

  1. Select the shipping methods that will be available to your customers, either Standard or Expedited, for each of the regions you will support. You can choose to support one, both, or neither for any of the regions. Only choose the shipping methods you can reasonably meet as you could damage your brand and customer relationships if you fail to meet these expectations.
  2. The cost of shipping can be based on one of three characteristics (one for each region and each shipping method): the total value of an order, the number of items in an order and the total weight of an order. Select the radio button beside the characteristic you wish to base your shipping rules off of.
  3. The shipping rules for each characteristic (order total, order quantity and total weight) is setup according to Banded Shipping rules. Banded shipping defines a range of possibilities, each of which is given a cost.
    • For example, the following rule could be specified for all standard United States orders: orders that have a value between $0 and $50 will cost $6 to ship, orders greater than $50 will cost $0 to ship. In this example, the range $0 to $50 is referred to as a band and $6 is the cost. The number of bands that can be set for each region and shipping method is virtually unlimited (in this example we have only setup two bands).

  4. Add or remove a band, by clicking the + or - buttons to the left of each band. Note: Your last shipping band will always contain the words and above within the band upper value.
  5. Click the Save button once you have finished adding the rates for all the shipping methods you support.
  6. Your rules will displayed in a summary table and can be changed at any time.
